Makena Beach and Golf Resort

Makena Beach and Golf Resort

maluaka beach This week I had the opportunity of staying at the Makena Beach and Golf Resort in south Maui. I have been trying to visit different resorts every month so I have first hand experiences to share with our couples. Many times I am asked where to stay when in a certain area of Maui. We have a wonderful travel agent Robin, who does take great care of our couples and can work with you to find the best packages in Maui. When a couple is between two choices is when I usually get asked.

The first thing I can say about the Makena Beach and Golf Resort is that it is so filled with the aloha spirit. From the front desk to housekeeping to the pool attendants, I have never felt like such an honored guest. They truly feel that you are special and make every effort to show you. I enjoyed everyone of my encounters with their staff. Fantastic people!

When you come to Maui as your destination wedding or vow renewal, there is still so much preparation to put into your special day. At Maui Aloha Weddings, we try to take as much stress off of you as possible so that you can relax and enjoy your own ceremony whether it is the two of you or if you have many guests. At the resort, you will find the most peaceful environment imaginable. The resort has beautiful gardens where you can just sit and enjoy. There is also a fountain area with a pond that goes right to the gardens. They have a bridge that crosses over that is a great photo op.

They have two pools. One is a six foot pool where you can swim laps and workout. The other is a 4 foot pool where you can jump in and avoid the afternoon heat for a while. There is also a hot tub to really get you relaxing. While you are sunbathing and swimming, the staff will come out with ice pops or frozen grapes for you to enjoy. There is a grill at the pool with fresh fish salads and sandwiches among the regular grill offerings. Needless to say, they also have a beach bar serving all of the island drinks to make it a perfect afternoon. The last day that I was there, the resort had a hula show for everyone at the pool. The entertainers were really fun and it was a pleasure to enjoy the island spirit.

Makena Beach and Golf Resort sits on the coast of Maluaka Beach. This is a beautiful, white sandy beach with enough space for you to spread out in a beach chair or blanket and watch the waves. The water in Maui is always wonderful and you never have to stand with your feet in it waiting until your body adjusts to the cold water. Just go ahead and jump in to our part of the ocean! Next to the beach and right above the beach are grassy areas to sit and enjoy in case you don’t want to sit in the sand. They have a refreshment stand there as well where many of the children (young and old) were enjoying the various ice creams.IMG_1644

For those of you who like to get a bit of exercise besides all of the beach activities (swimming, snorkeling, surfing, stand up paddling), they have a full exercise room right on the premises. I also found the beach trail that was a great walk through the Makena area. Yoga or Zumba is offered every morning  and there are additional activities throughout the day from learning how to make a lei to weaving a Hawaiian style bracelet. Even at night there was a party of watch the stars and make s’mores which are everyone’s beach favorite!

Besides the beach grill and the ice cream stand, they have a Starbucks for your morning pick-me up and two exceptional dining adventures. In the morning, they have one of the most wonderful breakfast buffets at Cafe Kiowai.  You cannot find many breakfast buffets in the area and this one is great. Besides having an omelet station for your own omelet creations, they have many hot servings from eggs and sausage to pancakes – you name it. They have pastries, muffins, cereals, fruit and everything you can wish for in a breakfast buffet. If you are not all that hungry, you can also order a la carte.

At night there is the Molokini Bar and Grille. You walk into an area where to the right are tables with televisions featuring sports. In the middle there was a wonderful musician which I actually thought was piped in music at first. He was singing some wonderful Hawaiian songs, modern and nostalgia songs as well. To the left was a very nice dining area for an elegant night out or just to enjoy great food. The food was delicious. As mentioned before, all of their fish is caught right here on Maui or on the big island and you can tell. The preparation was just right on seasonings and sauces. It was a perfect dining evening.

I left the best to last! The Makena Beach and Golf Resort is one of the most reasonable in the area of Wailea/Makena Resorts. It offers all the amenities and yet considers the traveler’s expenses as well. They offer many special packages for rooms and suites too. Be sure to look at all that they offer from discounts on rooms to packages that include their breakfast buffet.

As you can tell, I really enjoyed my time there and will make an effort to return very soon for some R and R. If you would like a relaxing and great resort to enjoy while in south Maui – I do highly recommend the Makena Beach and Golf Resort.

Much aloha,
